Background
The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is the only comprehensive care center and academic teaching hospital in Iowa. Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of Iowa Hospital employ over 1,400 physicians and a staff of over 7,500 to manage its 729-bed hospital and 31,000 yearly patient visits.
Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center ranks among the top cancer centers in the US. The National Cancer Institute designates the cancer center as a comprehensive cancer center due to its focus on patient care, basic and clinical research, prevention, education, outreach and training. Among its numerous prestigious awards and accolades, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is ranked 23rd by the U.S. News and World Report, the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center in complex and rare cancers, and the national Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer.
