The Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University was established to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art cancer care to central and southern Illinois. Simmons Cancer Institute is funded by the National Cancer Institute and is part of a national network that seeks to expedite cancer therapies directly to the patients that need them most. Simmons Cancer Center houses over 20 cancer-specific research programs.

After referral or diagnosis by a primary care physician, a team of pathologists, surgical and medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, nurses and social workers will handle a case together.
