Background
Bayhealth Cancer Centers is a nonprofit healthcare system that manages Kent General Hospital and Milford Memorial Hospital, as well as a network of outpatient care facilities throughout Delaware. Both Milford Memorial and Kent General Hospitals opened in the early 20th-century and have a long history of providing high quality and innovative care.
Bayhealth is an affiliate of Penn Medicine for Heart and Vascular, Cancer, and Orthopedics and employs over 3,100 employees and a medical staff of over 425 physicians. In recent years, Bayhealth has provided over $38 million in pro bono healthcare per year. Since its partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Health System in 2003 and a clinical affiliation formed in 2008, the Bayhealth Cancer Institute has greatly expanded its focus on the delivery of cutting edge cancer care.
Due to its focus on patient care, prevention, education, clinical research, outreach and training, Milford Memorial and Kent General Hospitals have earned accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.
Cancer Treatments
Radiation oncology, clinical trials, chemotherapy, palliative care, state of the art diagnostics and imaging services, pathology, hormone therapy, biological therapy, complementary and alternative medicine, nutrition and physical therapy, and comprehensive and preventive care are all options in the Milford Memorial and Kent General Hospitals’ cancer treatment program. High-tech diagnostic innovations networked information systems connected to the Diagnostic Imaging Department via PACS, along with numerous options for radiation therapy: trilogy linear accelerator for IMRT, SRS and SRT, IGRT and respiratory gating, multi-leaf collimation and IMRT, CT simulator for treatment planning, brachytherapy, high and low dose I-131, and 3-D and 2-D conformal therapy.
