Dr. Sterman is member of the faculty at the departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery (CT Surgery) and Medicine (Pulmy&CCM Div) at the NYU Langone Medical Center. He was Director of Interventional Pulmonary Services and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center. He is the Clinical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Gene Therapy Program. Dr. Sterman specializes in mesothelioma, interventional pulmonology, lung cancer and critical care. He is currently focusing his clinical research on thoracic malignancies, how thoracic malignancies are related to molecular medicine, and methods to advance the technologies in Interventional Pulmonology.
Dr. Sterman has recently started a series of clinical trials with the goal of determining if genetic immunotherapy is a possible treatment option for diseases such as mesothelioma. He also has research interests in gene therapy and vaccine therapy for lung cancer and therapies for pleural malignancies such as mesothelioma.
Dr. Sterman received his medical degree from Cornell University. He completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and is board certified in critical care, internal medicine and pulmonary disease.
Dr. Sterman has received the National Institutes of Health’s Clinical Associate Physician Award, and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Doctors in America since 2005.
