Dr. Luketich is Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Director of the Heart, Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, as well as a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He specializes in thoracic oncology and in the treatment of patients with mesothelioma, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and benign esophageal diseases. Dr. Luketich is world-renowned for his use of minimally invasive surgical techniques during thoracic operations, including those involving mesothelioma.
Dr. Luketich received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at New York Hospital, and another fellowship in thoracic surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Luketich has authored or co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Gastroenterology
