Dr. Mullett is Chief of Thoracic Surgery and a Professor of Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He is also Surgical Director of the university’s Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic. Dr. Mullett has done extensive research on methods to surgically treat lung cancer. Treatment for patients with malignant mesothelioma often includes thoracic surgery. Dr. Mullett’s research interests also include investigating techniques that can be used for the early detection of lung cancer.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Florida in 1988, Dr. Mullett joined the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps. In 2004, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 874th Forward Surgical Team. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Mullett has written several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters concerning the treatment of mesothelioma and other cancers. He is also a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
